Fiverr has introduced “Garry,” an AI-generated mascot intentionally cast as the “internet’s punching bag” – a lighthearted way to showcase the platform’s AI-powered creative capabilities. Adweek reports that this latest campaign marks a clever real-time approach to advertising in the AI era.

A Mascot Steeped in Slapstick and Pop Culture

In a 90-second video created using Google’s Veo3 engine and Runway AI, Garry endures a range of comical mishaps. Viewers see him with bird droppings on his car, abandoned for a man in a hot dog costume, and even waist-deep in cement. The campaign cleverly references trending moments such as WNBA-related memes and the Nicki Minaj stiletto challenge from TikTok.

A Punching Bag That Draws Notice

According to Fiverr’s Chief Marketing Officer, Matti Yahav, the aim was to make Garry the target of online humor and cultural moments – the internet’s own punching bag, essentially.

To deepen engagement, Fiverr is crowdsourcing ideas: the brand will generate a new Garry vignette for every 5,000 comments the video receives. An example given by Adweek shows Garry appearing in a villa-themed scene after the broadcast of the Love Island USA reunion.

Agile Production Meets Traditional Creative

The campaign was developed by Fiverr’s internal creative team alongside AI-savvy freelance directors Noam Sharon and Tal Rosenthal. Rather than relying on big agency budgets, the campaign cost roughly 10 percent of what Fiverr typical production projects require. Yahav praised the fast turnaround and digital-first concept testing that the AI tools enabled.

A Nod to the Human Creators Behind the AI

Even though Garry is the face of the campaign, Fiverr emphasized the essential role of human creativity. The piece required detailed storyboarding, hundreds of promptframes, motion capture layers, and fine-tuning by skilled humans. As Fiverr’s tagline asserts, “Put the pro in prompts.”

Yahav also dismissed concerns that AI might reduce freelancer pay. Instead, he said AI projects enabled more complex and higher-value work for freelancers on the platform.
