A striking new out-of-home campaign from Wonderhood Studios and The British Skin Foundation is turning heads, and changing skin. The “Burnable Billboard” campaign visualizes the effects of sun exposure on human skin in real time, based on live UV data.

Real-Time UV Tracking Across Major Cities

Displayed on Ocean Outdoor digital screens in London, Southampton, and Manchester, the billboards feature close-up images of healthy skin that gradually transform to reveal sunburn and blistering. The effect is directly tied to actual UV levels recorded throughout the day, making the message both timely and visceral.

The campaign uses AI-generated imagery created in partnership with The Gardening.club and guided by medical experts. Thousands of frames were designed to simulate the progression of sun damage across different skin tones, ensuring accuracy and representation.

The Stats Behind the Strategy

This campaign follows new research from The British Skin Foundation, which reports that 38% of Brits had already suffered sunburn during the spring months. Alarmingly, only 27% of people are taking proper sun safety measures despite growing awareness of UV risk.

Creative and Technical Collaboration

Executive creative director Stacey Bird of Wonderhood Studios said, “We’re hoping the campaign will remind Brits that we still need sun protection, even if we think we don’t ever see the sun.” As reported by Famous Campaigns, the initiative was designed to be both visually impactful and medically informative.

According to Campaign Live, the project also received recognition at this year’s Ocean Outdoor Digital Creative Competition, further highlighting the effectiveness of its execution and message.

A New Standard for Health Messaging in DOOH

The “Burnable Billboard” stands out for its use of real-time data, medical consultation, and AI-powered visual storytelling. By placing the viewer in front of a live simulation of sun damage, the campaign goes beyond traditional awareness ads to create a more personal and immediate call to action.
